I am originally from Kenya, East Africa and I live in Silver Spring, Maryland. I am here to make the world a better place by helping other people live a better life through Makueni Sisters organization.
 

It was July 2006 when I started to dream about putting  together an organization that would help the poor people in the villages of Makueni district in Kenya. Soon After the the dream,  I travelved to Western Kenya in August 2006 and I was faced with the sad reality of the Mbita orphans.  These children were emotionally disturbed and I could see the pain through their eyes. Their parents had died of AIDS.  I wondered how could this pandemic have such impact in one tiny area of Mbita. Why has HIV/AIDS issue in Africa not raised awareness to the community level? And why has the government not done enough to help the victims?  These questions created more and more questions and not enough answers. To me, the  main answer to some of these questions is that there is not enough money to fight and prevent the disease through education.

When I returned to United States, I was determined to do something to help but  could not do it single handed. That is why I am reaching out to members of this community to work with me and  help the children of Malivani Village, Kenya  at http://www.makuenisisters.org/

In Kenya, the loss of a parent to AIDS can have serious consequences for a child's access to basic necessities such as shelter, food, clothing, health and education. Orphans are more likely than non-orphans to live in large, female-headed households where more people are dependent on fewer income earners.  This lack of income puts extra pressure on AIDS orphans to contribute financially to the household, in some cases driving them to the streets to work, beg or seek food.
